The Self-Drive 1-Day Safari is a great fit if you enjoy the freedom of having your own vehicle but still want the reassurance of a properly arranged game reserve experience. Drive from Cape Town at your own pace, arrive at the reserve and join your selected safari programme without having to organise the reserve details yourself.

You can choose between a full-day or half-day experience, with a ranger-led game drive at the heart of the visit. Depending on the programme selected, there may also be time for meals, leisure at the reserve and optional activities.

Because the reserve is a proper drive from Cape Town, a well-planned start makes the day much easier. We’ll help you understand the timing clearly so you can arrive relaxed, enjoy the wildlife and make the most of the open-road feeling of a Cape safari day.

Trip Itinerary

Your time at the reserve can be arranged as either a full-day or half-day safari experience. The exact programme depends on the option selected, with the game drive at the heart of the experience and additional activities available on certain programmes.

Arrive at approximately 9:00 a.m. for welcome drinks and breakfast. Head out on your safari game drive, which generally lasts around 2 to 3 hours, then enjoy lunch and leisure time at the reserve before departing at approximately 4:00 p.m. Certain full-day programmes may also offer horseback riding, quad biking or an Eco Synergy Project visit. Horseback riding and quad biking may be available at additional cost, depending on the programme.

Choose a shorter safari centred around a game drive. The early morning safari begins at 7:00 a.m. with welcome drinks and breakfast, followed by a game drive and leisure time before departure at approximately 12:00 p.m. The afternoon safari starts at 11:45 a.m. with welcome drinks, then lunch, a game drive and leisure time before departure at approximately 4:00 p.m. The sunset safari starts at 3:00 p.m. with welcome drinks, tea and snacks, followed by a game drive and departure at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Tour Questions

No. You drive your own vehicle to the reserve. Wildlife viewing is then handled through scheduled reserve activities, usually with a qualified ranger in a safari vehicle.

Your departure time depends on the full-day or half-day programme selected and where you are staying. We will confirm the timing before you travel.

If you are not comfortable driving, choose a guided safari with transfers instead. The self-drive option is best for guests who already feel confident with their rental car.

Yes, with sensible pacing. Tell us the ages of the children and we will keep the route realistic, with enough time for breaks and shorter stops where needed.

  • From R3 419 per person. The same per-person rate applies for groups of three or more.
  • Spa access and treatments are available at additional cost and should be pre-booked. Horseback riding and quad biking may be available at additional cost depending on the programme. Junior Ranger activities may also be available at additional cost. Optional activities can be enjoyed during leisure time where available.
  • Complimentary leisure facilities include WiFi, an outdoor pool, a bar and sun loungers near the pool, a coffee bar, indoor and outdoor seating, a kids adventure zone and an Eco Synergy Project tour.

Flexible & Fair Cancellation Policy

  • Free cancellation up to 14 days before your tour date.
  • 50% refund for cancellations 7-13 days before the tour.
  • Within 7 days, tours are non-refundable, but we’ll do our best to reschedule where possible.
  • If weather or operational conditions force us to cancel or change part of your tour, we’ll adjust the itinerary where possible or refund the affected portion.
